It's Not You, It's Me

George Costanza said it best, "It's not you, it's me."  A perfect way to back out of a relationship without hurting someone.  Of course that's not the real reason.  She might have had man hands or maybe he was a close talker.  Seinfeld references aside, breaking up is tough for both the dumper and the dumped.

The person doing the breaking up doesn't want to come off as a jerk or hurt the person, which can make it hard to be honest.  The person who's dumped may be left with a feeling of what did I do wrong. Here is a list that WotWentWrong.com, a reverse dating site that gives people answers to why they were dumped, came up with.

Some of those reasons worry me.  I'm a very picky eater, I'm on the shorter side, and I don't make all that much money.  I understand some of these answers being very high.  No one wants to be with someone who is always late, has bad hygiene, you fight with, or makes you feel unwanted.  But some answers show that both men and women can be pretty shallow and needy.  Money, height, bad kisser, come on people.

Maybe if it is too harsh to say the real reasons why you don't want to be, I found someone who makes more money, isn't as hairy, and is taller than you might not be the best way to let someone down.  Maybe we should just stick with "it's not you, it's me."

Words with Feds

By now if you use some sort of social media you should know that what you post is out there for everyone to see.  That includes big brother.  I understand that the Feds need to keep an eye on things to keep us safe from any threats.  However, there are some key words that you use could use in everyday conversation that could raise a red flag and have the Feds looking at you.

Some words are obvious like Al Qaeda, Iraq, nuclear threat, and dirty bomb.  But some words might surprise you.  See if you can pick out the flagged words in these phrases.

I just want some Subway and then crash after all those exercise drills today.
I'm so sick after eating Mexican, I'm just gonna lock down in my house and watch the Brewers and Pirates.  Their relief pitchers are awful

Those two phrases have nine flagged words.  Subway, crash, exercise, sick, Mexican, lock down, relief drills, and Pirates are words that would catch the eye of Feds.  Here's a link to a complete list of the words the Feds look at.

I guess being that I'm using these words on a social media site like my blog I could be looked at as a threat (also a flagged word).  My goal isn't to bog down the the system because like I said, I understand why they are looking at these words.  I hope that they are finding the right people.  I also hope people who use social media are protecting themselves and aware of their posting.

Happy Memorial Day

This is one of my favorite weekends of the year.  It's  the unofficial start of summer.  Since I was a baby, I've been going up to my grandparents cabin for Memorial Day Weekend.  The last couple of years I haven't been able to go because of the NCAA DIII Baseball Championships but this year I'm very happy I'm heading back "up nort".

Some people might think no running water, no shower, no cell service, no internet, cabin/tent living is the opposite of fun.  Me, it's one of my favorite places on Earth.  I love ATVing through the mud puddles, floating down the freezing river in tubes, and sitting by the fire with my family.

I also really enjoy the small town's Memorial Day Parade.  When I was little, it was because of the excessive amount of candy we'd get and the fire trucks.  Now it's to see the men and women who have helped defend this country and watch my grandpa, a WWII Vet, salute them. (and still the fire trucks)

I hope everyone has a fun and safe Memorial Day Weekend but let's not forget why we get to celebrate with cookouts and camping with our family.  Thank you to all the service men and women, past and present.

10 Days Left in May to Ride with Attitude

May is quickly coming to a close.  That means two things.  One, summer is almost here.  Two, you can win a Wireless Specialized Computer from Attitude Sports. It tells you your speed, ride time, total distance, trip distance, ave. speed and max. speed, which is a great tool for when you are riding.  You can win the computer by guessing how many miles I've totaled on my Specialized road bike this month.  Just keep following my blog.

Over the weekend I went on a very nice ride to Rosendale.  I normally don't like going there and back on the same trail but the Mascoutin Valley State Trail was very scenic and enjoyable both ways.  It's a very nice dirt/gravel road but even in some of the muddy areas the Specialized Secteur didn't lose speed or control.  I was once again very surprised at how smooth the ride was.  Above is the report from my Garmin Edge 200.  I also road to work today so add another 4.6 miles to the total.

May 16th's Bike Ride With Attitude

On May 16th I had another great ride on the Prairie View Trail.  But before the ride I stopped by the corner of Johnson St. and Main to Attitude Sports.  I needed to buy a pump to make sure my tires were properly inflated.  The guys at Attitude were great helping my find a pump and explaining why a generic pump for footballs and such wouldn't work.  They also asked me how my rides have been going. They told me how to prep for a ride physically, like stretches and foods/drink that I should I do before I ride.

After I pumped up the tires I road.  I went the opposite way on the Prairie View Trail from work.  I also took the gravel path that starts on Winnebago Dr. and goes to 151 instead of just taking the road.  I was surprised how well the road bike did on the trail.  I was worried it was going to be a bumpy ride and was going to slow me up a lot but the Specialize Secteur was smooth and fast.  I also tried to find  an alternate way back to my apartment but did more zigging and zagging than anything.  However, I did find my way home.  Above is the report from my ride from my Garmin Edge 200.

Toy Story Delete Disaster

We've all been there.  You're finishing up a paper or project for school the night before it's due but when you try to open it's gone.  You don't know where it went, you might have accidentally deleted it, saved over it, or aliens hijacked your computer and messed with your files. Either way you are screwed.  You know the feeling.

We'll you're not alone.  The folks at Disney Pixar had that same problem with Toy Story 2.  It was one of the first few completely computer animated films. So it was a fairly new process and they almost lost everything when their computer started deleting the films files.  Here's a video of what happened.

Biking with Attitude Sports

Last night was one of the best rides I might have ever had, plus there was great weather.  The Prairie View Trail is definitely my favorite.  I saw a lot of birds including a baby turkey that was hiding near the trail.  It felt like I was flying on my new Specialized Sectuer from Attitude Sports.  I'm really sore today but I did improve my speed by 1 mph, which is a lot harder than I thought it was going to be.  Above is the report that I get from my Garmin Edge 200 which helps me analyze my ride and where I'm slower, plus it maps out my route so I don't get lost as much.

I also took a ride to work yesterday and then from work to the starting spot on the map.  It was the longest total ride of the month.  Remember, you can sign up and guess my miles at the new k107.com. The person with the closest guess to how many miles I ride in May will win a Specialized Computer from Attitude Sports.

Also, K107.1 would like to congratulate Dave from Attitude Sports for finishing 11th in the Race Around Slovenia, which is a 738.6 mile ride.  I can't wait to start the open training rides starting later this month with Attitude Sports.

Scot's Summer Ride with Attitude May 7th Ride

I didn't get lost again.  That's two in a row which is a big deal for me.  I went a little farther and a little faster on last night's ride.  There were great conditions too, no wind and great temps.  I went about 17 miles for those who are keeping track, which you should be because if you have the closet guess to how many miles I ride in the month of May you'll win some great prizes from Attitude Sports.  I'm really getting used to my Garmin Edge 200 too.  It's really nifty.  While I'm riding I can see my miles per hour, distance, and time so I know if I'm slacking or kicking butt.

I can't wait for the open training rides that Attitude Sports will have later this month on Tuesday nights.  I've got a lot to learn about riding before my trip around Lake Winnebago.

Scot's Summer Ride with Attidude Weekend

When I was looking at the weather forecast for the weekend last Friday, I didn't think I was going to get out for a ride.  But it looked really nice on Saturday afternoon so I thought I'd go for a quick spin.  But first, I had to head to Attitude Sports to get my new Garmin Edge 200 re-attached and another run-through on how to use it.  Tony helped me out and told me more about the features on the Garmin .  He also noticed my brakes weren't that tight so he got those fixed for me too, which is good.

This ride I didn't get lost!  I was pretty excited.  I went from the Brooke Street trail towards Pioneer again, to Park, over to Martin to get on the Prairie View Trail again.  I really like that trail.  The Garmin Edge 200 is great too.  Not only does it keep track of my miles, (which were slightly less than what I did on my day 3 ride) but it also keeps track of my average speed, top speed, elevation change, and time.  Moral of the story, my Specialized road bike and Garmin Edge 200 are great but I am slower than I thought.  I'll get better.

Hope the weather clears up this week so I can continue to ride this with Attitude and you can continue to guess how many miles I’m riding in May and win some great gear from Attitude Sports.

Scots Summer Ride with Attitude Day 3

Yesterday I once again took my new Specialized Secteur Sport from Attitude Sports out for a ride and once again I kind of got lost.  I've always felt like the best way to get to know a city is just get lost.  It's ok though, I made it home safe and even though I didn't know where I was, tracking my miles was easy with my new Garmin GPS that Attitude Sports hooked me up with.

It was a great ride.  My goal was to bike the Prairie View Trail, which I did, it just took longer to find than I wanted it to.  I started near the Forest Mall and took the Brooke St. Trail south. I ended up on Pioneer Rd.some how.  From there I kind of got lost. Some how I ended up by 151 near Charter so I had to circle back. I did end up finding the Prairie View Trail. The Secteur Sport was great.  It shifted very smoothly for going up hill or getting started again after stopping. That was my first time on that trail and I must say that is a great ride.  I finished it up on Winnebago Dr./Scott St.back to my apartment. The ride took about an hour and a half and today I'm definitely feeling it in my legs.  For those of you keeping track of my May miles it was more than 15 miles but less than 25 miles.

Scot's Summer Ride With Attitude

Last night I wanted to head out for a ride but realized I needed to pump up my tires a little bit. I just ccouldn't do it so I headed to Attitude Sports so they could give me another run through.  Tony was there and helped get my tires to the correct pressure.  Turns out the pump I have doesn't have enough PSI to pump up my road bike tires.  I ended up getting a really nice ride after that even though I didn't know exactly where I was for most of the ride.  From Attitude Sports I road to the Lakeside Park and then to the trail on Brooke Street.  I took that all the way south near Mercury Marine and then back to my apartment.  In total I road 9 miles.  Today I'll get my bike GPS from Attitude so I'll know how fast, how long my rides are, and I'll know where the heck I am. Can't wait.

Scot's Summer Ride with Attitude

One of the great contests going on with K107.1 this summer is my Ride with Attitude Sports.  The guys at Attitude hooked me up with a great Specialized Secteur road bike and some great gear to help me get around this summer.  You can follow me around this summer and not even leave your house.  I'll be tracking the miles I put on my new bike from Attitude and giving you hints on how many through May, June, and July.  At the end of every month you can guess how many miles I put on the bike with the hints I'll be giving you on Facebook and my blog.  If you're the closest to the miles I biked that month you'll win some great gear from Attitude Sports.

I started my summer ride today and I'll give you the biggest hint of the summer.  I road to work today which is 2.3 miles one way. Soooo if I say biked to work, you'll know how many miles I put on.  Keep up to date with my ride with Attitude Sports with my blog and on facebook.com/k107.1
